by Howard 10. November 2011 11:23

Northampton based HARTING Integrated Solutions Ltd has invested in a reorganisation of their warehouse storage equipment and improved capacity and efficiency of their operation. Dynamic Storage Systems not only provided the new pallet racking installation but also repositioned the existing cable racking and provided innovative solutions for safe working practices in the warehouse.

As the main contractor for the internal fit-out of Pegler Yorkshire’s new South Yorkshire warehouse and distribution centre, Dynamic Storage Systems supplied and installed all the storage and handling equipment. This included warehouse automation featuring a fully-automated mini-load system with associated conveyors for order picking and robot tote stacking. In addition, Dynamic Storage Systems supplied a mezzanine floorpallet racking, Pallet Live, cantilever racking and tote bins. The company also worked alongside and in close co-operation with the main building contractor and acted as Principal Contractor under CDM for the internal fit out.

Following extensive design and planning work, installation of the hardware was completed on time at the beginning of 2010. Dynamic Storage Systems builds on its relationship with Travis Perkins

by Howard 1. June 2010 16:59

With many businesses struggling to negotiate their way out of recession, it is the long-standing, slowly built partnerships that often point the way to success. Dynamic Storage Systems has just such a relationship with leading builders’ merchant Travis Perkins, a partnership that has grown steadily over the last five years.

Beginning with warehouse pallet racking maintenance work, Dynamic Storage Systems has gone on to work in partnership with Travis Perkins on all aspects of storage at its central distribution warehouse in Brackmills, Northampton. Recently, this included the decision by Travis Perkins to centrally distribute a new range of hazardous products.  The company has always sold chemical-based building products, incorporating flammable, corrosive and toxic items, but they were delivered direct to trading branches from the manufacturer. The decision to store them centrally meant that they could be distributed to branches with all other products, but the new range required special provision in the warehouse, so Dynamic Storage Systems was asked to evaluate the possibility and suggest viable storage options.

Working closely with Roy Spencer, Operations Manager at Brackmills, Dynamic Storage Systems designed and refined a new installation, consisting of a number of bunkers and a purpose-built mesh cage. The flammable products are segregated - to meet fire and insurance requirements - in the cage, which is a 60-metre run of racking, totally enclosed in appropriate mesh. In addition, 30 fire-resistant, bunded bunkers were constructed to house hazardous products. Each bunker is individually isolated so that toxic and corrosive products can be kept separate from each other to avoid contamination. If the fire alarm sounds, doors on both the cage, and each individual bunker, close automatically to assist with fire containment.

Dynamic Storage Systems also installed a pallet live storage lane, which stores two pallets in each bunker, to simplify loading and unloading. After working closely in conjunction with the manufacturers of the bunkers, the rollers were installed 150 mm above the floor, with bunding underneath so that, in the event of a spillage, products are prevented from mixing and creating a dangerous concoction. “DSL’s assistance on our hazardous goods storage project has been invaluable in helping us to ensure the safety of our employees and visitors’’, says Roy Spencer. ‘’Safety was a key factor in the initiative, as well as ensuring legal compliance with the storage and handling of the product range.”

Travis Perkins' Brackmills Central Distribution Warehouse services 1000 branches nationwide. Hundreds of vehicles arrive at and leave the site every day. Beginning by installing mezzanine floors, pallet live storage and carton live storage systems. DSL has carried out ongoing maintenance work on all the racking in the warehouse, as well as changing racking configuration and converting timber decking to mesh decking to ensure better internal visibility levels and to reduce the risk of fire. The company has also frequently adjusted racking to accommodate changes to the product range being stored and distributed.

As the warehouse has developed, a solid partnership has built up between DSL and Travis Perkins, as Roy Spencer confirms: “DSL’s prompt service and attention to detail has suited us very well, and the relationship has grown from a tentative one to a diverse and trusting partnership."

Peter Hunt, Sales Manager of Dynamic Storage Systems agrees: “Over time, we have come to understand Travis Perkins’ requirements and business ethos and developing the relationship to its current level has been mutually satisfying. We believe there is value in building and maintaining long-term relationships with clients and it’s a philosophy that has stood us in good stead during tough economic conditions.”

An ultra efficient warehouse solution for a major brewing company

by Howard 15. January 2010 16:01

Dynamic Systems’ latest installation forms a fundamental part of a brand new warehouse and distribution centre for brewers Wells & Young.

The new site, on Cambridge Road in Bedford, represents a major investment for the recently formed company, brought about when London brewer Young’s merged its brewing operations with Charles Wells of Bedford in October 2006. All of Young’s beers will now be brewed in Bedford alongside the different Charles Wells brands. With the new company came a need for a new warehouse and distribution centre and Dynamic Systems was asked to supply 2000 pallet places of standard adjustable pallet racking to form an integral part of it.

The installation was a complete success, as Wells & Young’s Project Manager Roger Bell confirmed: “As a company, we never compromise on the quality of our products and we expect the same high standards from our suppliers. Dynamic Systems designed an effective and efficient storage solution for our new site and we were pleased to find them extremely professional, knowledgeable and always available for assistance and advice.”

Howard Gillard of Dynamic Systems is equally pleased with the project: “We have a lot of experience to offer clients, backed up by top-class products that provide dynamic, successful ultra efficient warehouse solutions. This installation was part of a new build operation in which Wells & Young had invested a considerable sum. The storage solution had to be right and I’m confident that the system we’ve installed will be efficient, reliable and durable for many years to come.”

Warehouse Solutions for a Local Distributor

by Howard 27. November 2009 14:46

Coventry-based RAM Enterprise has enjoyed a trouble-free start to its new warehouse operation thanks to the speed and efficiency of its pallet racking installation. Not only did Dynamic Systems supply and install all the pallet racking but the company also designed a bespoke layout for the 15,000 ft² warehouse.

RAM Enterprise has been a retail business in the West Midlands for 25 years, but in the last five years has branched out into importing goods from around the world. The success of this side of the business created a need for additional warehouse space and the new site certainly provides it - the new warehouse is six times the size of the previous one. The new ultra efficient warehouse warehouse needs to store and distribute over 600 separate product lines to customers and any pallet racking had to be able to cope with this level of distribution.

Having been selected to supply the new site, Dynamic Systems chose standard Adjustable Pallet Racking (APR) for its flexibility and ease of use. By far the most versatile of any pallet racking, APR can be loaded and unloaded quickly and efficiently using conventional handling equipment. Depending on aisle width requirements, APR will suit most storage applications; it offers numerous potential configurations and a wide range of accessories. The racking in RAM’s new Coventry operation provides nearly 1000 pallet positions, enabling pallets to be stacked five-high. The racking is loaded and unloaded by an electric-powered fork truck and a hand pallet truck operating in four aisles.

“Our new pallet racking installation was smooth and trouble-free,” says Mayur Ghedia, RAM Enterprise’s MD. “Dynamic Systems was able to supply a quality product at a good price and deliver quickly. They managed the whole project from start to finish and their efficiency meant we were able to start using the new warehouse on schedule with no hold-ups.”

RAM Enterprise is one of the UK’s leading wholesalers and distributors of non-food consumables including batteries, toiletries, medicines and recordable media. Stocking a wide range of branded products, the company prides itself on excellent service, low prices and a wide variety of stock for its customers.

Dynamic Systems has built an impressive reputation for providing bespoke solutions to help clients achieve ultra efficient storage and warehouse solutions to improve their profitability. Many systems can fit easily into existing installations, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining productivity.

Winterhalter Installs Mezzanine and Shelving Systems

by Howard 21. October 2009 09:59

Warehouse solutions expert Dynamic Storage Systems has completed a new warehouse layout for dishwashing equipment manufacturer Winterhalter. The German-owned company is the world’s leading supplier of commercial dishwashers and glass washers that feature cutting-edge, energy-saving technology.

Winterhalter sells 3000 machines a year worldwide through a network of distributors and its UK headquarters is based in Milton Keynes. With business growing steadily, the UK company needed more storage capacity and briefed Dynamic Storage Systems to look at achieving this through a new layout of the existing warehouse area.

Dynamic Storage Systems' brief was to rearrange the adjustable pallet racking within the warehouse, in the first instance to generate more warehouse space to store machines awaiting delivery and achieve a tidier working environment. In addition, Winterhalter wanted to create a secure area for the storage of spare parts, thus improving stock control, and install a 150m2 mezzanine flooring area for accessory storage.

Ciaran Trainor, Winterhalter’s Warehouse Manager, explains why Dynamic Storage Systems was the right choice for the project: “Not only was their price right, but we also acknowledged the importance of Dynamic Systems’ close attention to detail. Installation took a month to complete and they were very professional and easy to work with throughout. The installation team worked around us and at weekends to fit in with our requirements.”

Peter Hunt, Project Manager for Dynamic Systems, confirms the success of the job: “The results have been very pleasing - the new warehouse layout has provided 20% more storage capacity within the same floor area, as well as creating more space to improve manoeuvrability for fork trucks.”

Winterhalter Limited has been in the UK for 30 years and is based in Milton Keynes. The family-owned company uses state-of-the-art technology to produce the most popular commercial dishwashing equipment in the world, supplying pubs and clubs, hospitals, prisons, schools, offices, restaurants and supermarkets, including many leading high street names.

Sowing the Seeds of Success

by Admin 1. July 2009 14:36

Dynamic Systems Limited has been awarded a second contract by Westland Horticulture for the supply of a further 6237 Adjustable Pallet Racking Positions to the Cambridgeshire based company Unwins Seeds. This second order brings the total number of pallet locations to be supplied at the new Alconbury Hill headquarters to 11,305. Phase 2 of the project is to be completed by July 2006.

“In November 2005 Dynamic Systems Limited had already completed the first phase for the supply of 5068 pallet racking positions in standard adjustable pallet racking (APR) and the contract was a great success. Dynamic Systems had to work within extremely tight timescales and from order to completion the whole installation was completed within 4 weeks. Commenting on the stunning achievement Volker Sombrutzki said that the project was an “unbelievable success and handed over in record time”.

Volker also commented” “Dynamic Systems not only provided a stunning installation in rapid time, but the customer focused project management and professional installation team ensured an extremely satisfactory result”.

Dynamic is the name of the game for Speedy Products

by Admin 1. July 2009 14:28

Global window furnishing specialist Speedy Products has chosen Dynamic Systems to supply a new storage and picking system for its National Distribution Centre (NDC) in Manchester.

Following a period of rapid development, during which it acquired a major Chinese drapery hardware manufacturer, Speedy reviewed its supply chain operation and stocking procedures within the UK. Concluding that an overhaul of its current system was required, Speedy chose Dynamic Systems from a number of competitors to come up with an effective solution.

Part of Speedy’s NDC is situated within a large Victorian building spread over three floors. Because of the design restrictions this placed on the project, Dynamic Systems liaised closely with the structural engineers to make sure the new system could be accommodated with as little modification as possible. The exact positioning of the system on the floor beams of the building’s original wooden floors was crucial and every detail had to be accurate.  The final design for the building sited a carton-live picking system on the second floor, creating 580 pick faces and 2230 total storage locations for tote bins containing accessories such as curtain rings and finials. The third floor contains a longspan shelving system for the storage and picking of around 32,000 curtain poles.

“The Dynamic Systems team has a very professional attitude and worked closely with our own people to design the ideal storage and picking system for our National Distribution Centre,” says Steve Carr, General Manager of Speedy Products.  “They approached what was a challenging brief in a positive and creative way and came up with a solution that really worked for us.”

Speedy’s new system will enable its NDC to operate with greater speed and accuracy, improving the service the company provides to its many UK stockists and other customers such as bespoke furnishing outlets.   Dynamic Systems has built an impressive reputation for providing tailored solutions to clients, helping them achieve the most cost-effective warehouse and logistics operations whilst improving profitability. Many systems can fit easily into existing installations, minimising down-time and maintaining productivity.

When asked to provide a testimonial questionaire on Dynamic Systems suitability to supply such systems the reply received was....“It looks like I am just giving 5’s but to be honest we have absolutely no complaint on service or equipment from cradle to grave”. Increased-Storage and Efficiency for SCA Hygiene Products

by Admin 1. July 2009 14:24

A new production facility and international distribution centre is providing SCA Hygiene not only with increased storage capacity, but also with higher levels of order picking efficiency. The company, Europe’s leading supplier of tissue and personal care products, has made a major investment in the new site, at Skelmersdale in Lancashire, which will despatch 25,000 cases of product a day. The new picking operation also provides significant health and safety benefits through its use of order picking tunnels, which keep pickers away from the main fork-lift truck routes.

Increased storage capacity was a major requirement in the new distribution centre, but other factors such as pick rates, picking accuracy, fast throughput and efficient use of space also needed careful consideration. It all needed to be achieved without compromising on health and safety.

Dynamic Systems looked at SCA’s whole stock profile and analysed the number of SKU types, as well as the throughput of fast, medium and slow movers. This allowed them to produce a bespoke solution: a system which allocated the stock into storage areas for bulk storage, single-pallet picking, full-pallet picking and picked pallets. Providing storage for around 8000 pallet positions, the installation featured standard pallet racking, drive-in racking and Pallet Live and Push-Back storage systems. The novel design integrated standard modules supplied by Interroll Dynamic Storage with an adjustable pallet racking structure to meet the specific requirements of the application. A simple yet effective ‘pallet release’ system was designed to improve the efficiency and safety of the picking operation.

Dynamic Systems specialises in order picking tunnels, which allow fast-moving stock to be picked from pallets on both sides of an aisle in the most efficient order, whilst minimising walking distances and thus increasing productivity. The picking tunnel concept was very attractive to SCA, not just in terms of efficiency and ergonomics, but also because of the health and safety benefits it offered to pickers by keeping them away from the main fork lift truck routes.

From initial tender to completion of the project took just twelve months and the installation was carried out under difficult conditions - on a working site, full of raw materials and with new machinery also being installed at the same time. Nevertheless, the project was completed on schedule and on budget and is now fully operational.

Dynamic Systems design, supply and install ultra-efficient storage and warehouse solutions from racking and shelving to mezzanine floors and live storage. We will help you get the best out of your logistics operation, whether you are looking for initial advice on a project or a total warehouse storage solution. An efficient solution can save up to 50% on conventional storage systems and many of our installations fit into existing layouts.
