DSL Integrate a Storage Solution for Harting

by Howard 10. November 2011 11:23

Northampton based HARTING Integrated Solutions Ltd has invested in a reorganisation of their warehouse storage equipment and improved capacity and efficiency of their operation. Dynamic Storage Systems not only provided the new pallet racking installation but also repositioned the existing cable racking and provided innovative solutions for safe working practices in the warehouse.

HARTING Ltd, has been at the leading edge of interconnect technology in the UK for more than 25 years. The success is based upon unparalleled service, quality manufacturing, an innovative and broad product range, and belief in and support of their people. Harting Ltd was founded in 1980 at Biggin Hill in Kent and moved to new premises in Northampton in 1990.

Keith Wicks – Supply Chain Manager for HARTING, Keith comments that “Dynamic Storage Systems provided expert guidance from the start and provided a thoroughly professional service”. In the first instance Dynamic Storage Systems rotated the existing cable racking for access from the assembly areas and then installed new racking with storage for both pallets and boxed goods. To the rear an installation of rack nets was installed to protect items from falling through by accident.

Howard Gillard Managing Director of Dynamic Storage Systems commenting on the project “whatever size of project we will always provide a first class product and service and the Rack netting solution provides clear advantages over conventional steel mesh products due to its flexibility, but more importantly it is rated for the load of a pallet weight falling as opposed to the steel mesh being only rated for a box weight”.

Keith Wicks said: “We are delighted with the installation and it is clear that Dynamic Storage Systems offer a high level of customer service from start to finish”.

HARTING develops, manufactures and sells electrical and electronic connectors, device terminations, network components as well as cable harnesses for networks or machinery, or for power and data application in factories. Products are used in mechanical and plant engineering, factory automation, power generation and distribution as well as industrial electronics and telecommunication.

Top Safety Accreditation for Dynamic Systems

by Howard 11. October 2011 12:29

Press Release

Dynamic Systems Limited is one of the latest group of successful companies to join a leading edge scheme, designed to help industry improve its safety record.

The Northampton based firm recently passed their accreditation assessment from SAFEcontractor, a programme which recognises very high standards of health and safety practise amongst UK contractors. Employing Dynamic Systems people, Dynamic Storage Systems is principally provides genuine expertise in the design, supply and installation of ultra-efficient warehouse solutions.  Using a wide-range of storage products such as racking, shelving, mezzanine floors, pallet live storage, where we can make the most of your space, improve your product flow and give you a better return on investment.

Specialising in Warehouse Design Solutions most recent clients have included major players such as Travis Perkins, Pepsico, Wickes, Newlook and Pegler Yorkshire to name but a few. The company’s application for SAFEcontractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business.

Howard Gillard says "SafeContractor works by assessing the health and safety competency of contractors and adding those that achieve the required standards to a database of ‘approved suppliers’. Prospective clients can then search the database for information on a contractor’s capabilities. Clients have a legal obligation to ensure that contractors operate in a safe way and SafeContractor offers them a simple way to access a list of approved contractors. The SafeContractor certificate acts as a confirmation of competency and a reassurance to clients that the health and safety practices of a contractor have been properly assessed.

SAFEcontractor is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to food manufacture, property, facilities management, retail and leisure sectors, all of which are big users of contract services. John Kinge, Head of Risk at SAFEcontractor said, "Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies".

"More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Dynamic Storage Systems has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector".

Under the SAFEcontractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website, www.safecontractor.com

Employer-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These employers agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.

Over one hundred and fifty major nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.

Second Hand Pallet Racking a good thing?

by Howard 29. June 2011 17:00

Often asked "is it possible to acquire second hand pallet racking" in the UK the answer is yes, however it is perhaps not as big a market as you might think.

Before deciding whether to buy secondhand you must ensure that you have taken all reasonable precautions to ensure that the racking is safe. Logically there is no difference between racking that you may have purchased new say five years ago and then dismantled and re-erected in another building to used racking purchased from a third party of the same age. But in this second scenario can you be sure of how the racking has been looked after. One of the biggest problems with racking is if it has been kept outside for any period of time. If it has the inside of the beams could be rusting thus affecting the load carrying capacity.

Some Recommendations:

  1. Do you know the history of the racking from new?
  2. Has racking if it has been kept indoors?
  3. Do you have the original manufacturers design specifications?
  4. Has the supplier used SEMA load notices?
  5. Consider if spares are available?
  6. "Refurbished" racking could mean that the rust has been painted over?
  7. New may still be cheaper?

Having completed a recent project using second hand racking supplied by our client its took some effort on our behalf and it is not always the most cost effective solution! If you are unsure which way to turn call Dynamic Storage Systems for a free independant and impartial quotation on 01327 810129.

What do you need from your warehouse space? Are there opportunities or new technologies you're missing out on? We know you'll want to make the absolute best of the space you have, and create the most productive environment possible. Get it wrong however, and it could be disastrous and expensive! But getting it right - first-time - can dramatically improve your productivity and prevent a lot of headaches...

What is Pallet Live (Gravity or Flow) Racking?

by Howard 10. June 2011 15:14

Often asked what is pallet live storage or gravity flow racking and what the benefits? Dynamic Storage Systems can provide the answer.

In FIFO configuration (First-In First-Out), the pallets are loaded in the gravity lanes on the entry side (the highest point). The slope then carries the pallets from the loading point to the retrieval point. When a pallet is unloaded, the next pallet automatically takes its place thereby ensuring that the goods are constantly available. FIFO stock management guarantees stock rotation as the first pallet to be loaded in a lane is the first pallet available at the picking face on the retrieval side. This management method is particularly efficient for perishable goods.

Advantages of pallet live storage are:

Automatic control by date
Automatic control by quantity
First-In First-Out (FIFO)
Permanent stock control
Space saving: uses 60%-100% less space than conventional storage systems
No intermediate aisles: only one for loading and another for unloading
Fast handling and picking: goods are always available at the picking place
Low maintenance
No energy consumption
Long service life High profitability: ROI in less than 2 years.
Low labor costs: fewer operators required.
Reduced forklift truck operation.
Tried and tested solution over many years.

Dynamic Storage Systems have installed many live storage systems for various applications and industries - call us now to see how the product correctly used can enhance your operational efficiency.

Dynamic Storage Systems Provides Effective Freezer Storage Solution

by Howard 4. April 2011 16:56

Dynamic Storage Systems are celebrating a new order for a dynamic pushback storage solution for a Midlands bakery company. The new order will provide storage capacity for 387 pallet spaces in a pallet pushback and standard pallet racking configuration within the new freezer store. Dynamic Storage Systems provided independent expertise in the design, supply and installation of the solution recommended.

The new pallet pushback system will be storing standard 1200mm wide x 1000mm deep pallets up to 500Kg within blocks of racking with either 5 or 6 pallets in the depth.

"Pallet pushback was chosen as the most effective storage solution to match the client's product  profile" say's Howard Gillard MD of Dynamic Storage Systems. "The pushback cart system is a very strong robust system and will provide many years of productivity for the company, although other storage equipment was considered the pushback system was the preferred solution".

In LIFO configuration (Last In First Out), a forklift truck loads and unloads the pallets at the picking face. This is a pushback system. To load a pallet, the forklift truck pushes the pallet at the picking face towards the back of the lane using the pallet to be loaded. When a pallet is unloaded, the pallet stored behind automatically takes its place, thereby ensuring that the goods are constantly available at the picking face.

If you are looking at dynamic storage products such as pallet live storage, carton live or pallet pushback products and need advice on how they will help you improve your operation, call us now for free impartial advice on 01327 810129.
